Subject: Re: Avignon and Provence in September |
Hi Alan,
I went to Avignon in September of last year. Unfortunately, I didn't have a car so I relied heavily on the tourist office tours to see the area. Here is a link to the tours the tourist office offers: http://www.cars-lieutaud.fr/circuitsgb.html . It might give you ideas on what to see. I liked the Pont du Gard because it is a striking piece. I also enjoyed visiting Les Baux de Provence more than Gordes. Both ancient towns are heavily commericalized but Les Baux de Provence's architecture impressed me more. I liked visiting St. Remy de Provence's Farmers Market. I bought some really good food there. Unfortuately, I ran out of time to visit the Camargue and Mt. Ventoux. As far as restaurants go, I discovered that following my nose, I would find the best food. I remember stumbling on a small bakery just inside the city walls of Avignon. The bread, sandwhiches, and pastries were delicious. Sincerely, Nancy San Jose, California |
