Subject: Re: Bangkok in October
Hi Patti, I don't think a week is too long for Bangkok. In fact; I love Bangkok and have spend there a week back in 2002 (October) and a couple of days at a row several years before (1999, 2000, 2001) as part of roundtrips in Thailand and I thought a couple of days was too short to experience Bangkok so, we went a full week in 2002 and enjoyed it very much. Of course you could fly up to Chiang Mai which is a nice place to be also but I would think that a week is rather short to visit Bangkok AND Chiang Mai because you loose some time travelling as well. Something you should consider when you are staying in Bangkok is the location of the hotel. We always make sure that we are close to a skytrain station. It is very nice to buy a multipass ticket and travel around Bangkok with the skytrain. And there is one station which connects to the river to the riverboats which bring you to the old part of Bangkok and Chinatown.I understand that the metro is now finnished but I don't have experiences with that yet. I love strolling through Chinatown, visiting interesting sites such as the Royal Palace with the famous temple of the Emerald Budha, shop until you drop in Silom and other major shopping centers and eating out in the many very good restaurants. It all depends on what you like. Many people say Bangkok is not worth spending time because it is a very busy and dirty city. I don't agree. I think it is busy but not really dirty (I've seen many dirtier cities in the world) and I must admit the fumes are sometimes overwhelming but for me it is worth it. Have a good time in Thailand!
