Subject: Eternal Egypt in Victoria from British Museum
Hi Ziners! Yesterday, Bruce and I drove down to Victoria, BC to visit the Eternal Egypt travelling exhibit at the Royal BC Museum. Apparently this was its first time ever "in this part of the world". 144 pieces were displayed (from gold jewelry to stone sculpures) and they had a video and 2 demonstrations (one on food, the other on mummification). They also provided a hand-held gadget that allowed the visitor to listen to commentaries at each of 25 major pieces. I have some very strong opinions about the experience (mostly related to the lack of techniques used in interpreting the pieces to the visitor). We didn't attend the accompanying IMAX presentation. Has anyone else ever seen this in its entirity and home environment? What did you think? How did it make you feel? Donna Nanaimo, BC Canada
