Dear Doug,
Next time you are in the vicinity of Naples take some extra time and visit Capodimonte, which was built as a palace and a place to show off the Farnese art collection that Carlos of Bourbon had inherited from his mother, Elisabetta, the last Farnese. Apart from the great art that is displayed there are also rooms from the palace period including a Chinoise made of china. It is on top of a mountain in a lovely park. The museum restaurant is quite nice too. Then you have the amazing Certosa di San Martino, which is now the museum of Naples, the view from there over looking the bay of Naples is wonderful as is the museum. I could go on and on about the marvels of Naples. I always feel that it has been much maligned and it is a city much misunderstood. Fanny |
