Subject: Re: Suggestions for Australia / New Zealand Itinerary
Hi Terry,

In Auckland we stayed in the Parnell district at the City Garden Lodge. A youth hostel located in the former embassy for the Queen of Tonga, the City Garden Lodge is nicely located for museums, restaurants, and the city center. http://www.bugpacific.com/hostels/nz009.html http://tinyurl.com/57qg4

Ask directions to the Parnell Rose Garden and Parnell Baths. From the lodge you go down St. George's Bay Rd. until you find a path on the right that leads to a small park in a hollow. Go through the park up through the residential neighborhood to the next main street (Gladstone Rd.) and left. You'll pass a wonderful coffeehouse on your left (Good place for breakfast) and you continue on a block or two to the gardens. Cross the street and just wander through these neighborhoods. As you go north you'll find great views of the harbor.

As you'll be limited on time I suggest a visit to the Auckland Museum. Be sure and attend the Maori Cultural performance known as "Manaia". We walked there but you can also take The Link, central Auckland's loop transit. In fact, I suggest you take The Link around the loop once to get your bearings. http://www.aucklandmuseum.com/

Auckland is a great restaurant city. In fact, a great city all the way around. We ate at the following restaurants and enjoyed them all.

Pluson in Ponsonby

Cibo in Parnell; We sat at the bar and sampled a variety of dishes http://www.cibo.co.nz/ Review: http://tinyurl.com/6z3yu

The Java Room in Parnell http://www.javaroom.co.nz/index.html

Have a great time, John in San Diego
