|Subject: Re: Not so funny travel stories|
We,too, were scammed like that in Rome, in May 2003. We were stopped just near the Borghese Gardens, gave directions to a man in an old car who was a "travelling businessman" who had been robbed, who proceeded to give us 2 leather jackets from "Valentino", then managed to extract 70 euro from us. We were really angry and embarrassed when we realised almost immediately that we'd been "had". We told our travelling companions, who were elsewhere that day, and hope we've learnt from our experience. While we'd been told about a number of other possible scams in Rome, we hadn't heard of that one, and the man was sooooo plausible until he snatched the money and screamed away in his car. You live, and you learn!
