Hi, Donna... We've never hired a guide, and I don't think
we'd want to, just as we don't go on escorted tours. We
prefer to go it alone... don't even use a travel agent.
It's not that I think a travel agent isn't worth the
money... their fees aren't that high, though I think a
guide's fees might be. I enjoy planning the trip, and we
enjoy being on our own. It's part of the adventure of
travel for us. That isn't to say that we haven't taken a
guided walk or taken a guided tour of a cathedral. We loved
Malcolm Miller's very informed talk at Chartres Cathedral,
and we've enjoyed the Paris Walks tours of Montmartre and
the Latin Quarter. I wonder how others feel...
