A friend just returned from Cuba and had the same advice. Do not get your passport stamped. The other thing he said was that the US dollar is still cherished despite the government's insistence on the peso, but take plenty of cash to meet your needs. There are no ATM's and no easy ways to get additional funds. He and a friend were rapidly running out of money there (they are conspicuous consumers) and had to cool their habits in order to have enough funds to stay the rest of their trip and get out of Cuba. Too many of us think that the ATM has become ubiquitous, but not in Cuba.
