Subject: Re: Advice on Sienna and the Hill Towns
Hi Margaret,

We rented a car in Tuscany although we did take a train from Lucca to Florence for a day trip. We also took a bus from Siena to San Gimignano on another occasion. But even though it wasn't very far, it required a bus transfer part way.

The orari (timetables) on this site might help you plan: http://www.sita-on-line.it/SITA-Toscana/HomeToscana.htm

Other bus info links: http://www.abctuscany.com/siena/transports/index.cfm http://www.turismoverde.com/italia/trasport/bus.htm http://www.trainspa.it/mappe/mappaserviziextra.html

I found two sites that offer day trips: http://www.initaly.com/ads/walking.htm http://www.toursbyroberto.com/tours.htm

Perhaps another Ziner might have a personal recommendation.

There is a train station in Siena which is not very central. However there is a bus from the station to the centre of the city. For the trip between Florence and Siena, for example, the bus is most often recommended over the train.

Enjoy!
