|Subject: RE: Advice on Siena and the Hill Towns|
Dear Margaret and Les on renting a car locally,
In October I rented a car in Cortona/Camucia. On a previous stay in Cortona, the lovely ladies at the Tourist Information Office called to get auto rental information for me. So in September 2004, I telephoned and faxed to reserve a car for 4 days in October with Panichi Aldo, the Fiat dealership owner. Panichi himself delivered an impeccable new automobile to Hotel San Michele. Drove me to his Camucia Office, completed paperwork, and gave me Fiat driving lessons! Two hundred euros for four days.
So much better than picking up car at airport and dropping it off in the wee hours of morning before flight, fuss with parking cards at five euros a day, plus sparring for parking spaces.
I googled "Ufficio Informazioni Siena" to find the Piazza del Campo office phone: 292230 and fax: 292346. Also an email address: firstname.lastname@example.org,toscana.it Hopefully they can supply you with rental info.
Although I was in Tuscany for two weeks, those four days gave me the freedom and the joy of driving through the breathtaking countryside on the way to Pienza, La Foce, Umbertide, and Mercatale di Cortona.
Good luck on this,
