Hi Frances and other Ziners,
I visited Sissinghurst in 1989 along with many other gardens in England. Before we visited England we joined the National Trust here in Australia. A very nominal membership fee gave us free entry to National Trust properties through the UK. Sissinghurst and many other beautiful gardens are managed by the National Trust.
We visited Sissinghurst twice. Once in glorious sunshine but with many other people, the second time while it was showering - not many people and the colours of the flowers were superb.
Near to Sissinghust is Knole where Vita Sackville West grew up.
Another garden I liked very much which was nearby was Scotney Castle Garden http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/places/scotneycastle/
