Subject: Venice for the handicapped

While watching the Indianapolis Colts do a melt down last evening, one of our companions asked about access to Venice for a person who can walk, but not long distances. She specifically asked about accommodations by the train station, access via boat, where to stay, etc. for someone who is not wheelchair bound, but who otherwise would have difficulty climbing in and out of a water taxi. I replied that I did not have personal knowledge, but that I could tap a great resource. So, I am tapping that great resource. What can anyone recommend?
