Hi Pauline,
I have to add my enthusiastic vote to those recommending
Petra and Abu Simbel. Petra is unique and, although a short
visit will leave you craving for more time, it is worth
every minute you can get there.
In Feb. 2000, the cost for my trip to Abu Simbel from Aswan and return was $120US. This was soon after the massacre of tourists in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt's tourism was devastated, and prices may have been low for that reason. We had visited a lot of temples and monuments along the Nile, and Abu Simbel was still one of the most spectacular sights. If you get a chance to visit Queen Nefertari's tomb in the Valley of the Queens, take it. It has been restored and is marvellous to see. The colors are so vivid. Now that was expensive ($35US for 10 minutes). Dolores St. John's, Newfoundland |
