Subject: Re: Suggestions for Baltic Cruise ports of call
Hi Lucy,

For Helsinki I suggest going to the cathedral and Senate Square, market place with the presidential palace, Temppeliaukio church (inside rock), national museum, Ateneum (art museum). Besides the fortress island of Suomenlinna is very much worth visiting. If you want to see much of Helsinki in a short time just sitting, take the tram number 3T which goes around the whole town. For transport, the best thing is to buy a special card (for 1 or 2 days) which is cheap and allows you for free travels in bus, tram, metro and ship. You can buy it at kiosks and at the railway station. Many restaurants have a special lunch menu which is cheaper than ordering from the list. You can find information about restaurants and sights in a booklet called "Helsinki this week" which is available at every hotel, tourist information etc.

Here are some useful addresses:

In Tallinn the historical old town is very much worth seeing, both the lower and upper parts (Toompea hill). The view from there is very nice. There are many nice restaurants, most of them also having a special lunch. Eating in Tallinn is much cheaper than in other towns which you will visit.
