Hi Lucy,
We just got back from the W. coast of Ireland & experienced driving through the Connemara Peninsula for the 1st time. It is so wild & beautiful so if you have time I recommend Roundstone which is on Bertraghboy Bay. Good B & B & great food at O'Dowd's pub. There is a miniature but picturesque harbor with fishing boats & a nice artisans colony at the old monastery. I also 2nd someone's suggestion to see the Cliffs of Moher & the Burren. Near the Cliffs is the little village of Doolin where there is nightly traditional Irish music in the 3 pubs. My favorite is O'Connors where the food is also excellent. Ballyvaughn is at the edge of the Burren & the Monk Pub has wonderful fish dishes & a view of Galway Bay. I'm sure you will love the Irish people & the beautiful, unspoiled landscapes. Did you ask about renting a car? If you aren't familiar with driving on the left side of very narrow country roads, I recommend renting a car with an automatic transmission. It's much more expensive but sure saves on your nerves! Enjoy. Carol Bailey N. Idaho & planning the next trip..... |
