Subject: Travel bankruptcies |
Hi Ziners,
In light of the close-down of Jetsgo in Canada, I wondered about compensation when travel companies go under. In Ontario there is a government-mandated program (TICO) that requires travel agents to fund a compensation plan. If I book directly with the airline, I am not covered. I have booked recently with Destina which is an IATA member but doesn't seem to be a TICO member - at least, not that I can see. I searched the web and found other online travel companies that are - Exit, Belair, Merit. And of course, there are the bricks and mortar travel agents! Does your jurisdiction provide any safety net? If so, are you taking advantage of it? Here are a few links: Australia http://www.tcf.org.au/tcf/default.asp Ontario http://www.tico.on.ca/index2.html Includes links to other provincial plans.
