Subject: Trains in Scotland |
Greetings Ziners,
As we are in the final planning stages to depart 3/21 for Fife, Scotland and London a discussion ensued. We depart Philadelphia at 3:00 PM to Toronto with a 8:15 departure for London Heathrow. Scheduled to arrive 8:30 AM UK time, then changing to BMI for a 12:50 flight to Edinburgh arriving at 2:10 PM (7:10 PM EDT). Our plan was to drive 1 1/2 hours to the Kingdom of Fife for one night. We are both fans of golf history and this will be the closest to the Open we can hope to achieve. After much discussion we decided the amount of time spent without sleep and then driving 1 1/2 hours on the opposite side of the road in an unfamiliar area did not lend itself to safe planning. We chose to take the train from Edinburgh to Leuchars and then taxi to our hotel in Fife. Any opinions or experiences about the trains in Scotland? I am considering booking through Virgin Trains as Raileurope does not offer a return train on 3/21. Thanks as always for your help, Vince & Gerry in Philadelphia |
