I am from Yorkshire and many times we have flown to Manchester and then driven to Yorkshire. (Both my parents are from Manchester). We have also used the Manchester area as a base for exploring Wales. You will love it: the history is unbelievable. And the Northerners are the best people in the UK (but I am biased, of course).
