Subject: Re: Learning the lingo? |
Hi Frances and Ziners,
Marghe speaks a very little polite Spanish. I speak German fluently, French a little and am learning Spanish. I figure over 400 Million people speak Spanish, so it is high time I learned the lingo. Unfortunately, many grey cells have gone under the bridge, and I am finding my ability to pick up a language is no where near what it used to be. I also take a phrase book if I don't know the language of the country at all (Balinese, Italian). Sometimes I think I should get one for Australia, too: they really have fun with and take a lot of liberties with the Queen's language. I also try to learn a few of the phrases that one must use when first arriving, e.g., changing money, getting a taxi, finding a hotel. That kind of thing, plus I try to memorize the nice, polite expressions really well. I enjoy languages, maybe because I enjoy meeting different and interesting people from other cultures and countries. Happy traveling, Marghe and Marty in Coral Cove, Australia. |
