Subject: Cruise Report: Celebrity Century |
Hi all,
I just got back from 7 nights on the Celebrity Century and had a great cruise experience. The ship was very clean, comfortable and well furnished, and the food and service very good. Celebrity is my favorite line so far (I also liked Holland America and Disney very much). Thanks for the recommendations for shore excursions. In Cozumel, we took a $15 taxi ride to the Chankanaab National Park with our kids and spent the morning there. The entry fee was about $12 per person over 12, and was well worth it. If we weren't so chicken about eating anything in Mexico (I got sick from eating in Dominican Republic both times I went there....no fun!!) we could have spent the whole day there, as there was so much to do. They had reproductions of Mayan and other periods statues and buildings ie Mayan pyramid etc. along walkways in one area (my 12 year old took lots of pics as she is studying Mayan culture at school) and had a dolphin encounter area where you could view the dolphins. The snorkeling was cheap: $8 to rent the mask, snorkel and fins for the day, and the beach had moulded lawn chairs/chaises longues for free. There was also a botanical garden to visit (also included) but we ran out of time. In Grand Cayman, we took a $3 per person cab ride to 7 Mile Beach. It was glorious!! The sand was like powder, and was white. We could see areas we passed that had a lot of destruction from the big hurricane last fall ie buildings with roofs ripped off in parts, and trees destroyed. In Key West, we did a 45 minute guided tour of The Little White House, where President Truman stayed during and after his presidency. It was a good tour, but my husband, an admirer of all things American, said that it was the most memorable part of the whole weeklong trip. We climbed the Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios, bringing our own water shoes as was recommended, and had a great experience. We just bought a roundtrip transfer with JUTA tours at the pier, and paid the entrance to the grounds there (cheaper than through the ship) . Thanks for all the great help, Ziners!!
