|Subject: Re: Sienese hilltown day trips - transportation?|
Hi Ziners -
While in Siena, we'll have two days to take day trips to the countryside. We hope to go west one day to Monteriggioni, Volterra and San Gimignano, and the other day we'll head east to Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano. Any advice as to the best way of approaching these trips? We're open to renting a car for two days when we get there. Might this be prohibitive? We'd consider public buses, although we know that we couldn't see as much as by car. What about day tour companies? Don't think we'd consider Roberto Becchi - his tours sound great, but he avoids the places we've mentioned and sticks to really out of the way places.
Also, does anyone still hitchhike? We're a couple in our early 60s and might consider it if other Ziners have done it! Mille grazie!
