Subject: Re: Sienese hilltown day trips - transportation?
Greetings to all,

In response to the Singer's question about transport from Siena. I had a quick look in my Tuscany guidebooks (Rough guide and Cadogan to hand). it seems there would be little problem in reaching San Gimignano – regular TRA-IN (the bus company) buses from Siena but you may need to change at Poggibonsi. Similarly you can change at Poggibonsi for Volterra. I have been unable to find any information about buses to Monteriggioni.

Both guide books mention "Regular" buses from Siena to Montalcino. There are buses available from Montalcino to Montepulciano, and from Montepulciano to Pienza, although both these services seem to be infrequent.

I believe that residents of Montepulciano and Montalcino still harbour a little animosity towards each other dating back to when they took opposite sides in the Florence Siena conflicts of the 13th and 14th Century.
