I agree with the majority re. throwing the umbrella (folding or otherwise) away - for holidays, that is. They are just a pain to hang on to. BUT ...in the heat of this part of the world you don't want anything more than the lightest of clothing on, let alone another layer on top so....unless you are going to a formal dinner afterwards, my recommendation in hot climes like this is just to just get wet! Since coming over to Asia we've spent many holidays walking, hiking, cycling, etc. in the rain and it's become quite natural and fun!
