Subject: Takuan - Japanese pickled Daikon
Hi Debbie and Ziners,

The marinated yellow vegetable that was shaped like a vey dark yellow slice of lemon is called Takuan, three syllable, ta-ku-an. It is very popular in Japanese diet to go with rice.

Takuan is made of pickled Daikon, Daikon is a big fat white radish. If you google "japanese pickled diakon", you can find recipe for Takuan. I heard that Takuan was invented by a Japanese monk, and the monk's name was Takuan, so the pickle was named after its inventor. But you can verify if that is true with the locals while you are there.

Enjoyed reading your travelogue. Thanks for taking time to write them very day, and have a wonderful time.
