Subject: Re: Paris hotel near the Louvre

Another vote for the Hotel Britannique in the first e. We overnighted there, June, 2003 enroute home from Alsace. Hotel is on a nice, quiet side street, convenient to everything, and is very clean and comfortable with congenial, English-speaking front desk staff. Rate was about E 150 double. We arrived well before check-in time, and they held our bags for us while we went wandering.

We flew from Strasbourg into CDG. If I remember right, we took the free shuttle bus from terminal T-1 gate 28 to the airport's RER Roissy rail station. Half hour ride to the Chatelet Metro station. Followed the station walkway signs in the direction of the theater and when we climbed the stairs back up to street level, the Brittanique was right across the street. The next morning, we reversed course back to CDG and our flight home. No problems!

We've tried taxis, the airport shuttle, and most recently the RER train. We prefer the train. Taxis have been late picking us up, have failed to show up at all, or have become stuck in rush hour traffic. Our airport shuttle experience: We were staying at the Bretonnerie (NOT recommended!) in the 4th e, the airport shuttle was late arriving, took forever loading us up, and for the next 20 minutes we crept along the hotel's narrow street behind a Paris garbage truck on pickup day. Barely made our flight. RER rules!
