I always recommend the Ibis chain of hotels. They are all modern and comfortable, all have bathrooms with showers, if not baths. There are several in Paris, most on the outskirts, but a few close to the center of town. I'd try the Ibis Cambronne, which is near the LaMotte-Piquet-Grenelle Metro station on Line 6. It is only a couple of stops away from the Eiffel tower and a few stops from Montparnasse, a lively area of town where there are also a couple of Ibis hotels.

The only thing they lack is character, but I say who needs character when you spend most of your time seeing the sights. And unlike so-called hotels of character, the beds are comfortable and the rooms of reasonable size. And price.
