I agree that it because US cord is UL approved. I think that all computer and camera manufactures that rate their products as 110-240 compliant expect the products to be used in Euorpe and Asia especially when the instructions are in different languages.

I use all my electrical appliances that are rated to 140, including my shaver, in those regions with no problems. Finding the right plug is the challenge.
