We go often to Buenos Aires. If you feel that Calafate and the Glacier Perito Moreno are too far, you might enjoy Bariloche. Beautiful lakes and mountains, and the possibility to get accross to Chile buy the unique way of crossing the Andes by catamarans through the old wool route. (Or if you do not wish to go all the way you can settle for the first and second lakes.)

Last May, I spent a day out in a lovely estancia, only an hour+ from Buenos Aires, http://www.estancialosdoshermanos.com/index3.htm I enjoyed it a lot, because it is not a tourist show like others but most of the day is spent riding on horseback in the Pampas, having a good ASADO (barbeque) and enjoying the hospitality of the owners which were charming. They have horse for everybody and take a lot of care matching each rider with the right horse.
