Subject: B&B in Washington, DC
Hello fellow Travelziners,

Recently my wife and I visited Washington, DC and stayed at a somewhat unique bed and breakfast in the Waterfront area, south of the mall. Indeed it is named the Waterfront Row B&B. The address is 446 M Street, S.W., Washington, DC 20024. The phone number is 202-554-0964. The owners, Ron Lichter and Mel Morgan, live there. It is a three story town house with a basement. We stayed on the second floor that has one large bedroom, two bathrooms and a music room. Hanging on the bedroom wall was a framed "thank you" note that was a piece of fantastic callagraphic art featuring hand colored flower illustrations that would have won the gold key in a calligraphic art show. Mel had provided fresh flowers in a vase on the dresser. The place is full of original art, even in the bathroom.

Mel will cook anything you desire for breakfast.

We had an emergency come up and needed to get to the suburbs. The owners knew someone who owned his own limo and had squired the high and mighty over the last 20 years. What a brilliant solution! Beat hiring a cab. These folks are solution providers.

If you stay there, you are the only guests and get the kind of attention a family member would. We would stay there again. As I recall, the cost was below $125/nite.

The building is 1960's townhouse in a development designed by I.M. Pei. It has a front and a rear garden.

The metro is a short quarter of a block. The area is not loaded with diversions like du Pont circle, but we have stayed there so often that we decided to try another area. It is a short walk to the harbor with many boats, a nice restaurant and an old fish market that I visited early one morning as they laid out the fish on crushed ice.

A surprise was discovering a close friend of the owners turned out to be a close friend of mine. This came up as we were chatting at breakfast.
