Some, but not all (I think) scanners have an optional device that allows you to insert multiple slides at the same time. You can simultaneously scan either 9 or 16 (I am away from mine as I am writing), save it, and then cut the individual slides using freeware like IrfanView (a wonderful graphics- viewing program). Since the pass the scanner makes is fairly time consuming, this can be wonderful when you have large numbers to do.
