Subject: Re: Athens, Delphi and Ithaca
Dear Roger,

Greece is very warm that period (last week we had 39ºC) so you have to take with you light clothes, a hat for the morning and of course the appropriate clothes for the beach.

For evenings (dinner or a drink) it is better if you wear elegant clothes. For the morning something simple and comfortable.

In Athens avoid the short trousers. Long trousers and normal shoes (not athletic) is OK.

Drink a lot of water. In Athens the water is drinkable, but you can also buy bottled one.

Avoid being under the sun from 12.30- 17.00. Go very early the morning in Acropolis.

Then visit the Archeological Museum, Benaki Museum http://www.benaki.gr/ Museum of Cycladic Art(http://www.cycladic-m.gr/ Byzantine Museum http://www.nyloo.com/html/ent/661/ent.16661.1.asp and the National Gallery.

A WEB page with all Athenian museums is the following http://www.athens-today.gr/Museum/museum.html

Don't miss a performance or an event in Herodion, the ancient theater of Athens, because now it's Athens Festival. Ask your hotel.

Go to Piraeus for a walk to the small ports. Don't miss Plaka the evening (around 20.00).

As for restaurants in Athens:

I strongly recommend "To kouti", 23 Andrianiou str. in Plaka, in front of Ancient Market and with excellent view to Acropolis. Tel 210-3213229, 210-3213029. Very good food. Not very expensive.

Bar - Restaurant STAVLOS, 10 Irakleidon str, Thisseion, tel 210-3467206 Not very expensive.

Ideas for dinner (only) are:

Restaurant "Aristera-Dexia", 3 Andronikou str, Rouf (Thisseion) , tel : 210-3422380 Not very cheap.

Restaurant CINE PSYRRI, 40 Sarri str. Psyrri area, tel 210-3212476, 210-3215534 Not very expensive.

"Kallisti" 137, Asklipiou str. Center of Athens Tel. 210-6453179, 210-6445476, Not very expensive.

Another good restaurant is "Kaldera" in Palaio Faliro, which serves fish and other sea food (it's a mezedopoleio).

And one of my favourite restaurants "Arxaion Geyseis". They serve ancient greek food. Extremely interesting and particular tastes.

Have a look at the following URL http://www.arxaion.gr

Please note that many restaurants in August are closed for holidays. Ask your hotel to make a call before leaving. It's better if you have a reservation.

Hoping that it helps. I don't have any accurate information on Delphi and Ithaca.

Best regards from Athens, Joanna, leaving in few days for holidays in Astypalaia
