Subject: Re: Brazil
Hi, Malene -

About "negotiating purchases", again Brazil is a big country and as such it depends on the area you are in.

It is unthinkable in shops in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, etc. However, when you are in public markets or with street vendors selling their wares some negotiating is possible. It is more likely to work well in the north, north-east and interior of Brazil.

My youngest son is an expert on this topic (and I am a total catastrophe!) and he usually knows when to bargain by just looking at the vendor. He was a genius at this in Southeast Asia!!! Actually he says one should always try!

Hope this helps, Susana São Paulo, Brazil
