Subject: Re: New York City Theater Tickets |
Hi Ziners,
Buying theater tickets in NYC, can be a fun experience: reading the reviews, picking the plays, and finding the discounts are all part of the joy. The new theater season starts in September, and I suggest reading the following for the new season highlights: http://nytimes.com/ (theater section)- previews the up coming plays around Labor Day Weekend. Reading their theater section online will give you a good idea what happening both on and off Broadway. Timeout NY (magazine) is a good source for theater, however their online version is not comphrensive. Their magazine is a great source of information for what is happening in NYC. I highly suggest buying it before you get to the city http://www.timeoutny.com New Yorker magazine is limited but has indepth reviews. For discounts coupons (these can be used to buy tickets in advance, thus being sure of a play and getting a discount) keep a watch on the following sites: http://www.playbill.com http://www.curtainup.com http://www.theatermania.com/home/ It is too early to predict the Fall season but these are my suggestions. For serious drama I recommend Doubt, Pillowman, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. For musicals I recommend Hairspray, Avenue Q, and Wicked. For Off Broadway Slava's Snowshow at the Union Square Theatre. As you get closer to your arrival date can look at http://www.tdf.org/tkts/# This site give the shows that were available at the TKS booth (although not a sure shot, it is a good indicator of show that might be available).
