I think Napoleon Dynamite, which I hated, was filmed in Preston, quite a ways from Pocatello and quite different.

It is about a 165-mile drive from Salt Lake, but I am pretty sure you probably have some regional airline service with a Delta partner into Pocatello.

As far as the weather, it depends on how deep into winter and what is happening at that moment. If you were planning way ahead, I'd recommend flying.
