Simon and I have an extensive trip to Portugal planned - leaving in 2 weeks. We are very concerned about the current forest fire situation and are considering cancelling our trip since a good portion of our travels will be in the central & northern portion of Portugal. Since this is our first trip to this country, it is hard for us to decipher how close the fires are to where we will be. We called the Bussaco Palace where we are staying for a few days and we were told that the fires were south of the palace, around Coimbra, a town we look forward to visiting. Other reports say that the fires are heading right into the center of the city.

Does anyone have any first hand experience of what we can expect if we go ahead with our trip?
