Margaret and Les mentioned Avebury, the largest stone circle in Europe, near Bath. I too think this is a worthwhile stop. It is so much more personal & non-touristy than Stonehenge which is surrounded by barbed-wire fences & 100's of tour buses & thousands of tourist! Only a little exaggeration. You can, indeed, wander among the Avebury stones with the sheep. It's a lovely, quiet place. There's a very nice church in the village...dating back to the Saxons...4th or 5th century, maybe? Also the village pub has great pub grub.
