Another western option for Fall foliage is the route in southwestern Colorado known as the San Juan Skyway. This circular route that heads north from Durango to Silverton continuing on to Ouray, north and west through Ridgway, turning south to Telluride and continuing on down to Dolores, angling southeast through Mancos and finally east again to Durango, offers stunning mountain views. In the Fall the mountainsides are ablaze with the turning leaves on the aspens which contrast beautifully with the darker greens of the pines and firs. A gorgeous drive any time of year.
