Frances and Ziners,
I climbed several of the smaller Mayan ruins in the Yucatan. It wasn't bad at all. I did skip climbing the main pyramid at Chichen Itza as I was fairly badly injured in a fall the week before (I'd like to say it was on some ruins, but it was just on some regular stone steps). It is very steep, but there are rope handrails that you can hold on to. I think they are well worth the trip even if you can't climb. There is still a lot to see and you can get a feel for the people living there from ground level. As far as fears go, I do much of my traveling alone - that doesn't scare me - heights don't scare me, local wildlife doesn't scare me, snakes and lizards don't scare me, dodgy neighborhoods don't scare me - one thing does - spiders! The big hairy ones in the tropics or deserts almost make me sick to my stomach. I can't even bear to see a picture in a magazine. Marguerite in Chicagoland |
