Shalom Reggie and Ziners,
You do not mention if you will be in Jerusalem but since a friend from Toronto has been visiting me in Jerusalem, I have been playing tourist for the last month. Yad V'Shem has completely renovated and rebuilt their campus and should be on your list of places to visit in Jerusaelem. As part of their complex, the Valley of the Communities, a lovely off site museum, has its own small presentation featuring a story about the Jews of Salonika. Entrance without a fee. The Herzl museum opened in the spring and one needs to register in advance for a tour in English and is located on Mt. Herzl. There is an entrance fee. Phone 02-642-2190 The Begin Center also has a lovely interactive museum featuring the history of the country. Telephone for entrance details. One of my favorite small museums is the Islamic Museum and there is small exhibit there featuring the Jews of Morocco. Small entrance fee. Depending on where your family is, a nice family trip would be to Mini Israel, a park depicting the whole country in miniature. This is located near Latrun on the Jerusalem- Tel Aviv Highway. Below is a link to the municipality of Jerusalem website. It will let you know of any special presentations that will be taking place when you are visiting. http://www.jerusalem.muni.il/jer_main/f1_main.asp?lng=2 I know you will have a wonderful visit.
