Subject: Re: Currency in Cuba |
Hi Lucy,
We, all 14 of us, our kids their spouses and 6 grandsons including the family from the UK, take off for Cuba tomorrow, good timing eh? The US $ is no longer accepted in Cuba. Anyone presenting US currency for exchange into the new Cuban Convertable Peso will pay the current exchange rate plus a 10% penalty. So for US $ you will loose approximately 20%. on the $. The current rate for the Canadian $ is approximately $1.33 to the CCP. If your family are Canadian it is better to take Canadian currency, exchange to CCP and tip in this local currency rather than $US. Don't forget you need to save 25 CCP for the departure tax. This website will explain it way better than I can http://tinyurl.com/e4339 Sue Wright Waterloo, Ontario |
