Subject: Art - my favourites |
Hi Ziners,
Diana's post about the Vatican reminded me of some of the great art works I have seen and enjoyed in my travels. A few are: "The Adoration of the Lamb of God" by Jan and Hubert Van Eyk in St. Bavon Church in Ghent, Belgium. The painting of Auvers-sur-Oise church by Van Gogh and Manet's Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe in the Musee d'Orsay, Paris. I was one of the first in and had Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe all to myself for a while! The amazingly eclectic house of Sir John Soane in Holborn, London - the whole thing! The Etruscan museum at Volterra, Italy, especially the statue "Shadow of the Night". This one is cheating a little! In Bruges, an amazing special exhibition of Jan van Eyck's works tracing the influence of Eyck and Netherlandish artists in Europe. Any favourites?
