Hi Ziners,
Not a movie, but the 1970's television series "Poldark",
piqued our interest in Cornwall, England. We finally went
in the 1990's and marvelled at the rough beauty of the
countryside. It was fun to see road signs that mark
villages and towns of the story and the craggy cliffs
where, over centuries, the townspeople salvaged wrecks
washed ashore by storms. Though a fictional account of two
families, it was clearly based on historical events. Last
year I read all nine volumes of Poldark so it was a revisit
for me.
We also visited the Minack Theatre, Land's End, walked the countryside and stayed in lovely towns (Penzance was a disappointment though). St. Ives is a pretty town with the 700 year old Sloop Inn pub and the St. Ives Tate - quite a contrast. http://tinyurl.com/bf4eh http://www.tate.org.uk/stives/ http://www.sloop-inn.co.uk/ While in Cornwall, we also discovered that Daphne Du Maurier's books (and the movies based on them) were set in the area. A reason to return. Lucy, Toronto |
