Now that you've been to Sarajevo, you might like to read (if you haven't already) The Small Boat of Great Sorrows, by Dan Festerman. It's somewhere between a mystery and a historical novel, and the period is the late 1990's. Beautifully written, and full of fascinating (if melancholy) information about that part of the world.
