|Subject: Re: Venice|
When we were in Venice a couple of years ago, we took a different tack and decided to stay on the quieter Lido, which was short Vaporetto ride to St. Marks. The Lido is a lovely island with a beach on the Adriatic. It has one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in Europe, dating from about 1400 and an historic town on one end. There are buses and cars but traffic is very light. The buildings are beautiful with lots of spider geraniums in window boxes, etc. The Lido, in itself, is just a lovely place.
We stayed at the Hotel Villa Stella, which was quite reasonable, with A/C, private baths, and a great breakfast. I checked on Trip Advisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/ to see what people who have stayed there more recently have to say, and almost everyone gave it 5's across the board. The website for the hotel, which is probably more of a pensione, is http://www.villastella.com/
