Hi Nancy and other Ziners:

Judy in Hong Kong recommended Middle Beach Lodge in Tofino. We second that recommendation highly! We were there in mid-September 2003, and paid $130 Cdn. per night, for a fairly basic, small room with a wonderful ocean view, and an extended Continental breakfast of juice, yogurt, fruit, hot cereal, buns, coffee, etc. served in the gorgeous wood-beamed lounge, again with a perfect ocean view.

There are all kinds of accomodation at this lovely inn, and there would undoubtedly be something to suit your family's needs. Tofio and the surrounding area is wonderful, with all kinds of things to see and do, but we could hardly tear ourselves away from this gorgeous place, and spent a few wonderful days just lounging around.

We're not certain if dinner is served every night, but in September when we were there, they had incredible "fish dinners" served a few nights a week, which we loved.

If you like to read about places that you're going to, we would recommend this book - West by Northwest - British Columbia Short Stories, David Stouck & Myler Wilkinson Editors. If you can manage to find this book, it includes one story on the Haida people's creation myth.

Have a wonderful trip, Margaret and Les in Toronto
