denise and I were just in guanajuato on a day trip from san miguel this past spring. we found it extremely lively wth a european feel. as for hotels, I have my Moon Publication "Central Mexico Handbook", and it mentions two (2) hotels on the square; which is named El Jardin de la Union. The two hotels are Hotel Museo Posada Santa Fe and San Diego Hotel.
