Subject: Re: Accommodation in Sydney, Australia
Sue, for pure convenience the Rocks or Circular Quay are best. I stayed at the Holiday Inn at the Rocks which I found on http://www.wotif.com a last minute booking website. On my next visit, I'm going to book The Russell which has much more local flavor. My guess is that it is a 3 star. http://www.therussell.com.au/

The views from The Rocks are those one typically associate with Sydney. Darling Harbor is a touristy area and while there are waterviews, they aren't the ones you see in postcards.

Take the ferry to Manly just for the view. Get fish and chips somewhere along the Corso on your walk to Manly beach. Tour the Opera House and take in a performance if there is something that appeals to you. Take the Hop-on, Hop-off bus tour. I believe they take credit cards at Circular Quay but cash elsewhere.
