Subject: Valencia to Alicante
Pat,

We spent 3 weeks on a house exchange in Javea, Spain last summer which is "just over the hill" from Denia. You will love it! A tip! - We were told that the restaurants are required to have a very reasonable "menu of the day" during the week for the workers at lunch. Sometimes they have the same arrangement at dinner time. It is definitely a good deal and the way to go. Of course you must remember that in Spain mealtimes are much later than in America. Some restaurants don't even open for lunch until 2:00. Which brings me to our favorite restaurant in downtown Denia, El Greco. It was superb with an excellent menu of the day for lunch and beautiful reasonable wines. Another tip - the yacht clubs in Spain are open to the public and there is a nice one in Denia.

Javea, Moraira and Altea are all worth visiting along the coast. Guadalest is more inland but a beautiful drive and worth a visit also. As someone else mentioned, don't miss the sights in Valencia. The hotels are very reasonable and there is a tourist trolley to give you an overview of the city. The new "City of Arts & Science, designed by Santiago Calatrava is spectacular. Look it up on the Web for an idea before you go.
