Rosemary, Two more points of interest for Lake Garda:
- the villa San Vigilio, which is on a point on the east side of the lake. There's lodging, a restaurant, a park, and a beach (rocks not sand, admission charge).
- farther north on the east side of the lake, from the town of Malcesine, is a gondola to the ski mountain. It runs in warm weather as well, to hiking trails, and has a superb view of the lake from above.
I have to say I was a little disappointed with Lake Garda. I had expected the quiet charm of Lake Como, but much of the east side seemed overbuilt with inexpensive hotels, and it was packed with tourists when we were there in July.
