Subject: Toronto to Myrtle Beach, S.C. |
Hi Lucy & Ziners,
What a wonderful idea for a road trip. So many places so little time! Upstate New York has many wonderful areas including Cooperstown, NY. The town is not just about Baseball. There are museums, working farm and the Glimmerglass Opera House. This was one of our stops when we drove back to Philadelphia from Toronto in 2004. The Hudson Valley in New York is also beautiful. And New York City goes without saying! In North East Pennsylvania there is the Poconos Mountains and their resorts. Reading, Pa offers much outlet shopping. Lancaster, Pa is home to the Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch and their fine cooking. If you enjoy baseball there are minor league teams along the way. Philadelphia offers many remnants of the birth of the USA along with some fine world class Museums and some esoteric ones.Through April the National Constitution Center is hosting a traveling display on Ben Franklin and his ideas to enhance our world. Longwood Gardens, part of the DuPont Family for years is an agriculture masterpiece.Winterthur is also worth a look. Eastern State Prison in the art museum area in an exciting historical site. Gambling beckons from Atlantic City, New Jersey while further down the cost in Cape May are wonderful Victorian homes and hotels. From Cape May there is a ferry to Lewes, Delaware and on to many more shore communities including Rehoboth Beach, DE and Ocean City, MD. The Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD is a plethora of entertainment, dining, sport and cultural mix. Washington, DC offers a wealth of museums and historical landmarks and like New York would be a posting unto itself. South of DC includes includes Arlington & Alexandria ,VA our destination in April. With a trip further South to see Monticello in Charlottesville, VA. Hopefully this is a start for your planning, Vince & Gerry in Philadelphia |
